The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, released on January 21, 2026, show that Asian universities have been rapidly improving, particularly in STEM, while institutions such as MIT, Oxford, Harvard, and Stanford maintain their global leadership across a variety of academic disciplines.

The Times Higher Education has released the World University Rankings by Subject 2026 on January 21, 2026. According to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, many Asian universities have been improving in STEM fields and are also currently developing more quickly than their fierce competitors in North America and Europe in other academic fields.

Similar to last year, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked in the first position in the social sciences, arts and humanities, business and economics. Stanford University was placed first in the United States for education and law, Harvard University for engineering and life sciences, and the California Institute of Technology for physical sciences. The University of Cambridge surpassed Stanford University in psychology, while the University of Oxford set the standard in computer science, health, and medicine. The only institutions or universities that were placed in the top 10 in all 11 subjects were Harvard University, Cambridge University, and Stanford University.

Which Universities Were Ranked in the World Universities Ranking by Subject 2026?

The National University of Singapore has risen to the 19th position in the biological sciences, making three Asian universities within the top 20 for the first time. Asian universities saw an increase of 17% in biological sciences,16% in physical sciences, and 19% in computer science. The Times Higher Education uses 18performance indicators to rank the universities in the World Universities Rankings by Subject 2026, which cover:-
