Now that the NEET UG results have been declared, aspirants must seek admission to medical colleges across India to pursue M.B.B.S. courses. The National Medical Commission of India recognises around 200+ government medical colleges and private medical colleges across India. 

The National Medical Commission of India also approves the total number of seats allocated to students seeking admission to these colleges based on NEET UG scores. It has always been tough for aspirants to decide whether to apply to a government medical institution or a private medical college. While private medical universities offer superior facilities and amenities, their tuition is costly. Government medical colleges, on the other hand, have lower tuition prices, more competitive admissions standards, and a larger patient population.

This article compares private and government medical colleges in India that are recognized by the National Medical Commission and offer admission to the M.B.B.S course based on the NEET UG results, as well as the seat intake and university affiliations.

List of Private Medical Colleges in India 

The National Medical Commission of India accredits around 209 private colleges across India. The total number of seats offered by these private colleges, as approved by the NMC, is 37615. The private medical colleges have the following features:

There are a total of 211 Government Medical Colleges in India that the National Medical Commission of India accredits. The total number of seats offered by these government colleges and as sanctioned by the NMC is 36202.   Some of the features of the government medical colleges across India, which draw a large number of students competing for admission, are as follows:-
