Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad

Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad, which is popularly known as IIT Palakkad, is a public university that was established in 2015 by the Govt of India. It has received the status of ‘Institute of National Importance’. It is the third generation of IITs and is currently mentored by IIT Madras. It is located in Kerala and was established along with 5 new Indian Institutes of Technology established in 2015. The institute was ranked 64th under the Engineering category of NIRF 2025. The flagship course offered here is BTech. Other courses offered at IIT Palakkad include MTech, MSc, MS (by Research), etc. across Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc. specialisations. The selection is held through the JEE Advanced exam. 

The institute has also signed One-Semester Study Abroad Agreements with Auckland University of Technology (AUT), Auckland, New Zealand, The Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, The University of California, San Diego and The University of Texas at Austin, among others.

Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad: Highlights

IIT Palakkad offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. Admission to the programmes is based on various national/state-level entrance examinations. Candidates are required to register for the respective entrance examinations and appear for the examination to fulfil the IIT Palakkad selection criteria to be eligible for admission. The institute has a Career Development Cell (CDC) which assists in providing training and placement processes for its students. It organises assessment tests and aptitude and guides students with interview and resume preparation. The cell also focuses on industry collaborations to help students with placement opportunities by providing industry visits, workshops, events and Career Oriented Sessions. The institute has a campus area of 500.00 acres with a student and faculty count of 751 and 86, respectively.
