George E. Davis, who is known as the Father of Chemical Engineering, proposed in 1880 that the institution that became known as the Society of Chemical Industry, and later was renamed as the Society of Chemical Engineers. George E. Davis was educated in chemistry and mechanical principles and worked as a chemical consultant in Britain’s increasingly industrialising regions.
George E. Davis also delivered a series of 12 lectures at the Manchester School of Technology (which is now a part of the University of Manchester) in 1887, which also serves as the foundation for his groundbreaking two-volume Handbook of Chemical Engineering (1901; revised 1904).
