Recently, Times Higher Education has released the Asia University Rankings 2025, which provides a detailed evaluation of research universities in Asia. 853 institutions from 35 nations and territories were ranked this year based on evaluations of their research, instruction, knowledge transfer, and global perspective. Around the world, students, academics, policymakers, and business executives rely on the widely accepted and trusted approach, which was created by Times Higher Education's internal statistics team and comprises 18 performance indicators.
Asia Universities Rankings 2025 Key Highlights
Among the 853 institutions that were ranked in the THE’s Asia Universities Rankings 2025, China maintained the leading spot, securing the first and second place and also maintaining a strong hold on the top 10 ranks. The universities of Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong have secured a place in the top 10 ranks.
This year in the Asia Universities Rankings 2025, four new countries made an appearance, namely, Bahrain, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Syria. India has performed well, with 20 Indian institutions placed in the top 250. Only one Indian university, though, has placed within the top 100. The only Indian university in the top 100 is the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), located in Bengaluru.
Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences was the only private university to rank in the top 250 of the Asia Universities Ranking 2025 and to regain its position as the top private institution.

With 20 of the institutions placed in the top 250, India did extremely well on the Asia Universities Rankings 2025. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, was the only university which was placed in the top 100 of the rankings.

Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore
In the 1890s, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, a successful entrepreneur, decided to use his wealth to found the Indian Institute of Technology, Bangalore, a prominent university in India. The Institute initially only had two academic departments: General and Applied Chemistry and Electrical Technology. IISc has developed an undergraduate curriculum, numerous new departments and centres in areas such as brain research, nanoscience and engineering, hypersonics, and more, and it has also funded several start-ups in addition to fortifying its ties with industry.
