The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet has approved Rs 36,006.22 crore for continuation of the centrally sponsored Samagra Shiksha programme for another five years, from 2026-27 to 2030-31. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Rs 36,006 Crore for School Education
The Samagra Shiksha programme will cover students from pre-primary classes to Class 12 across Madhya Pradesh, including children in the age group of 4 to 18 years. The programme is aimed at improving learning outcomes and quality of education, ensuring equitable access to schools, reducing social and gender gaps, promoting vocational education, strengthening teacher training institutions like SCERT and DIETs, and implementing the Right to Education Act.
Rs 42,490 Crore Total Package Approved
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Minister Narendra Shivaji Patel said the cabinet approved proposals worth more than Rs 42,490 crore for education, irrigation, transport, horticulture, administrative infrastructure and welfare programmes. Samagra Shiksha alone accounts for over 84 percent of the total approved amount, which shows the state government's major focus on school education and retaining students from pre-primary to higher secondary level.
Rs 1,166 Crore for Transport
The cabinet also approved Rs 1,166.60 crore for continuation of 11 Transport Department schemes for five years from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2031. The largest allocations include Rs 377.41 crore for flying squads and checkposts, Rs 361.89 crore for district establishments and Rs 245.55 crore for continuation of the smart card scheme. Funds were also approved for driving training centres, rural transport and road safety initiatives to strengthen transport infrastructure and citizen services.
Rs 491 Crore for Horticulture, Rs 2,607 Crore for Irrigation
The cabinet cleared Rs 491 crore for eight horticulture and food-processing schemes for the same five-year period. This includes Rs 100 crore each for fruit plantation and spice area expansion and Rs 85 crore for protected cultivation, aimed at increasing farmers' income and expanding horticultural production.
In the irrigation sector, more than Rs 2,607 crore was approved for three projects. Rs 1,846.05 crore was sanctioned for the Chitawad Major Irrigation Project on the Kshipra river in Ujjain district to irrigate 65,000 hectares, Rs 749.62 crore for the Gaund Major Irrigation Project in Singrauli for 34,500 hectares and Rs 11.49 crore for the Chanderi Micro Irrigation Project in Ashoknagar for 28,000 hectares. Together, the three projects will create irrigation capacity across over 1.27 lakh hectares.
