
IIM Ahmedabad was established in 1961 and has remained at the number 1 position for colleges in India for a very long time. NIRF 2025 ranked the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad first, while the FT Business School Rankings 2025 ranked it 31st in the world. In the Financial Times’ Executive Education (Open) program Rankings for 2025, IIM Ahmedabad placed 35th, but another Financial Times rating in the category Career Progress Rank 2025 for IIMA’s one-year MBA program ranked first. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has also topped the Eduniversal Best Master’s ranking in Agribusiness and Food Industry Management for 2025.
IIM Ahmedabad offers courses at postgraduate and doctorate levels. Admission to the institute is primarily based on entrance examinations like GMAT, GRE, CAT or GATE as per the respective course. The final admission is done on the basis of Analytical Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) from the candidates who have a valid CAT score. Candidates are required to register for CAT entrance examination and fulfill the IIM Ahmedabad admission criteria to be eligible for admission.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad aims to recognise exceptional qualifiers of the CAT examination based on their previous academic performance, as well as their CAT scores from a variety of academic backgrounds. Subject to meeting specific criteria, a predetermined number of the best applicants from each academic discipline are shortlisted for AWT (Analytical Writing Test) and PI (Personal Interview) based on their composite score, or ‘CS.’
The top 5% in each academic category (i.e., AC-1 to AC-5), which is limited to the corresponding categories, including SC, ST, NC-OBC, PwD, and General, among the applicants to IIMA who appear for CAT-2025. They will be shortlisted for the AWT and PI based on their composite score ‘cs’, subject to their fulfilling criteria C1-C3.
