Admission Process:

The institute offers Undergradute, Post graduate and PhD (full time and sponsored) in different disciplines. To enroll for NIT Meghalaya for the upcoming session, candidates have to follow the admission process as followed:

1. Undergraduate Admissions:
Students should have completed Class 12th with a miinimum of 75% percentage (65% for SC/ST/PwD) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as mandatory subjects.
Candidates must appear for JEE Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This will be followed by councelling process which will be registered under JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) portal.
2. Postgraduate Admissions:
Candidates need to have a relevant Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech for M.Tech; B.Sc for M.Sc) with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60% marks.
To enroll for the course candidates have to qualify entrance exams GATE or JAM and the admission will be based on the results, rank, preferences, and availability.
3. PhD Admissions: 
To get admission into PhD courses offered by NIT Meghalaya, candidates need to have a valid GATE or UGC NET score to secure a seat. Institute releases separate advertisements for Spring (January) and Autumn (July) semesters.
Selected candidates have to appear for an Institutional Written Test followed by a Personal Interview.

Candidates have to fulfill the eligibility criteria, and submit the required documents and the admissions are completely done on the basis of results of the respective entrance exams.

Step-by-step application process:

1. Candidates have to appear for the national/state-level entrance examination as per the desired course.
2. Selected candidates will be then called for a personal interview and counselling round.
3. Final admission is done after the verification of documents and payment of fees.

Essentially two major scholarships are offered by NIT Meghalaya for Master’s and PhD scholars. Those are: 

1. For Master Degree Programme:

• Scholarship Rs.9000/- per month for ME/ M Tech Scholar.
• Annual Contingency @Rs.5000/- per annum

2. For PhD Programme:

• Scholarship @ Rs.15000/- per month.
• Annual Contingency @ Rs.15000
• Pre-Ph.D grant of Rs. 45.000/- for selected faculty to complete course work before formally joining research programme

To enroll in UG, PG and PhD courses offered by NIT Meghalaya, for this academic year, candidates need to have these eligibilities:

• Candidates for the B.Tech program must have completed Class 12 (or equivalent), with Physics and Mathematics as required topics, as well as Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology. A minimum of 75% aggregate marks are required for General/OBC candidates, while SC/ST/PwD candidates must achieve 65%.
• Admission is completely merit-based, and undergraduate candidates must have a valid JEE Main 2026 rank. To participate in the centralized CCMT/CCMN counseling processes, postgraduate candidates must have a qualifying score in GATE (for M.Tech) or IIT JAM (for M.Sc).
• There is no age limit for JEE Main, but candidates must have completed their qualifying examination in 2024, 2025, or 2026. Candidates seeking the Home State (HS) Quota must have completed their Class 12 at an educational institution in Meghalaya.
