The Central Board of Secondary Education has conducted a surprise inspection at 29 schools in Delhi, Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for bye-law violation. Out of the 29 schools, 18 are from Delhi while three are from Varanasi, two from Bengaluru, Patna, Ahmedabad and Bilaspur each.
CBSE in its notification issued, stated that the inspections were held on December 18 and 19, 2024 to check the enrolment of dummy students. CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta when speaking to the media mentioned that a total of 29 teams, consisting of CBSE officers and a principal from an affiliated school conducted the inspections.

A majority of the schools were found to have violated the Board’s Affiliation Bye-laws by enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records creating a ‘non-attending’ enrolment. Schools were also found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the board.
The violations have been noted and the board is in the process of issuing a show-cause notice to the schools breaching the regulations. CBSE will also be taking legal action against defaulting institutions.
