If you are preparing for engineering entrance like JEE Main or State level examination i.e. UPSEE/UPTU and WBJEE, then you must know the tips to attempt maximum question correctly in the exams. WBJEE 2018 is scheduled to be conducted on April 22, 2018 and there will be two papers - Paper 1 for Mathematics (11:00 am to 1:00 pm) and Paper 2 for Physics and Chemistry (from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm). The tips mentioned here for attempting maximum correct options in engineering entrance test will help you score well and get admission in good college.

Tips to attempt maximum questions and score well in engineering entrance exams -

1. Analyse the question paper first Candidates need to analyse the question paper as soon as they get it in the examination and are allowed to open the seal of question paper. You get 15 minutes before the engineering exam begins to go through instructions and check any discrepancy in paper/questions. Utilise these 15 minutes to take a quick and sharp view at the question paper to figure out if the paper is easy, average difficult or hard as per your preparation.

2. Divide the question paper into three parts Before you begin to solve the question paper, divide the question paper into three rounds as per your analysis – Easy, Medium and Tough and begin to follow them in order –

Round 1 – Easy questions: start with solving the simple question because it would require less effort to solve and you can save time for next round of questions.

Round 2 – Average questions: As compared to the first round of questions, these questions can be quite difficult therefore you can give a bit more time and efforts to solve these questions.

Round 3 – Tough Questions: Now, you can attempt to solve the questions which you feel are the trickiest in the test paper. You can put your best efforts and time saved from first two rounds in solving these questions.

3. Identify the breaker questions in every sectionWith this strategy, you need to identify the twisted questions/breaker questions in every section of the test paper. Though these questions appear to be easy actually, they are most time and effort taking ones. For twisted/breaker questions, you need to avoid or solve at the last after all simple and average questions have been solved.

4. Don’t try to solve the complete question paper – if you try to solve the all the questions in the test paper, then you may get stuck with tricky questions and would end up wasting your time. You should solve only the questions you are completely confident about to be correct.

For example, JEE Main question paper carries 90 questions divided into 30 questions equally for each section and 180 minutes to solve the test paper i.e. you get 2 minutes for each question. But if you try to solve each question then it will include the breaker questions too which may take too much time to be solved and hence, you would not be left with enough time to attempt the complete question paper. Therefore, solve only the questions of which you know the answers.

5. Fill the OMR sheet sometimes, even after knowing the correct options, students fill wrong ovals/bubbles in the OMR sheet in hurry. The first thing to always keep mind is that you should never fill your OMR sheet in a hurry because the OMR sheet needs to be filled carefully, you should fill the answer sheet as per the instructions only. If you fill ovals incorrectly, then even if you have marked the correct option, your answers will be considered wrong. You would lose your marks just because of this mistake. To avoid this mistake you should practice well before the exam just to fill right ovals for every question. During the exam, do check the question number and option before filling up the OMR sheet. You can roughly mark the correct option on the test paper so that you can fill only correct oval in the OMR sheet.

To Summarise –

In order to attempt maximum correct questions in engineering exams, you need to –

  • Analyse the test paper
  • Divide the question paper as per the difficulty level
  • Identify breaker question
  • Do not solve every question in the test paper
  • Fill OMR sheet correctly
