Chhattisgarh Raises PG Medical, Dental Stipend: 1st-Year Students To Get Rs 85,050, 3rd-Year Rs 93,996

The Chhattisgarh government has increased the stipend for postgraduate (PG) medical and dental resident doctors enrolled in the state’s government colleges. The revised stipend has been announced for students across all three years of their PG programmes. The new rates will come into effect from October 1, 2026.

Under the revised structure, first-year PG Medical students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 85,050, up from Rs. 67,500 earlier. This amounts to an increase of Rs. 17,550. The stipend will further rise to Rs. 90,027 for second-year PG Medical students and Rs. 93,996 for those in the third year.

The stipend for PG Dental students has also been revised. First-year PG Dental students, who were earlier receiving Rs. 53,500, will now receive Rs. 85,050 per month, bringing their stipend in line with first-year PG Medical students.

The stipend for PG Medical students has increased from Rs. 67,500 to Rs. 85,050 per month for first-year students. For second-year students, it has been revised from Rs. 71,450 to Rs. 90,027, while third-year students will now receive Rs. 93,996, up from Rs. 74,600.

Chhattisgarh PG Dental Stipend Hike

For PG Dental students, the first-year stipend has increased from Rs. 53,500 to Rs. 85,050 per month. The stipend for second-year students has been revised from Rs. 56,700 to Rs. 90,027, while third-year students will now receive Rs. 93,996, compared with the earlier Rs. 59,200.

Chhattisgarh Also Increased Monthly Stipend For MBBS Interns

Recently, the Chhattisgarh government increased the monthly stipend for MBBS interns to Rs 25,000. The changes will take effect starting October 1, 2026. 

The stipend revision follows a protest by the Chhattisgarh Junior Doctors’ Association (JDA) over various demands related to doctors’ remuneration and service conditions. The association has also sought changes to the existing bond system and the creation of a separate super-specialty cadre.

JDA president Dr Piyush Srivastava said the government order covered only the stipend of interns, while other demands raised by the association are yet to be addressed through formal written orders. He said the JDA has been seeking revised remuneration for different categories of doctors, including interns, resident doctors and bonded doctors.

As part of the agitation, junior doctors stopped attending routine outpatient department (OPD) services. However, they continued providing medical consultations through a parallel OPD organised at the protest site.
