Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das visited government schools in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida on September 15 as part of the party’s ‘School Theek Karo’ campaign. Following the inspection, Das claimed on X, formerly Twitter, that all government schools in Gautam Buddh Nagar had been directed to close immediately after the CJP team inspected a school in Noida.
However, Gautam Buddh Nagar District Basic Education Officer (DBEO) Rahul Panwar later termed the claim “false and misleading” and clarified that government schools in the district were continuing to function as per the scheduled timetable.
Panwar said a misleading claim regarding the closure of schools in the district had been circulating on social media.
“All council schools (government primary/upper primary schools) in Gautam Buddh Nagar district are functioning as per the timetable set by the administration and the department, and no order regarding the closure of any school has been issued,” Panwar said in the order.
Das, in another post, said that classes were underway during the inspection and that students and teachers were present inside the school. He alleged that the Noida administration had contacted the school authorities multiple times and asked them not to allow the CJP team to conduct inspections.
“As you can see, classes were going on. Children were inside. Teachers were very kind to us. However, the Noida administration called them “5 to 6 times” to not allow the CJP team to inspect the schools. This, and three other schools we visited were closed for us. Noida is supposed to be one of the more prosperous cities. One can only wonder what’s up in other districts!”
Speaking to the media during the inspection, Das said the CJP team was visiting schools to assess the conditions in which students were studying as part of its ‘School Theek Karo’ campaign.
“Today, we’ve come to Noida. We’re going to audit some schools here as part of our ‘School Theek Karo’ campaign. We’ll see the conditions in which children are studying. Noida is one of the better districts in UP, so hopefully, the school conditions will be good too. Whatever the situation is, we’ll show you the reality.”
Das also appealed to young people in Uttar Pradesh to conduct similar inspections of schools in their neighbourhoods. He said such audits could help highlight the condition of school infrastructure and the education being provided to children.
“We want young people from UP to go out and audit schools as well—to show what condition the schools in their neighbourhoods are in and what kind of education children are receiving. Today, we’re planning to visit schools in Noida, but we’d encourage other young people to take on this responsibility too and audit schools in their own areas.”
