Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this during his official visit to Indonesia where the two countries signed several agreements to enhance their cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI), technology, education, entrepreneurship, and space. The proposed campus will cater to students from the whole ASEAN region, indicating the growing international presence of Indian academia and supporting the government’s vision of making Indian universities globally competitive. The program is expected to increase access to quality management education while strengthening educational ties between South East Asia and India.
IIM Bangalore's First International Campus to Serve ASEAN Region
The Indonesia campus will be IIM Bangalore’s first international campus and one of a few Indian Institutes of Management to have a physical presence in a foreign country. The move is aimed at promoting academic collaboration, student and faculty exchange and offer globally recognised management programmes to students in Southeast Asia.
The announcement comes at a time when India is pushing for internationalisation of its higher education sector under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and asking top institutions to expand their global footprints.

In addition to the IIM Bangalore campus, India and Indonesia agreed to expand collaboration in several emerging sectors, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital public infrastructure, Startup ecosystem, Space cooperation, Critical minerals and technology partnerships, Higher education and academic exchange.
