Hosted by Pathways World School, Gurugram, UN SDG Summit 2026 was organized for students from across 13 Delhi NCR schools to discuss sustainable development, climate change and solutions to global challenges. The summit featured an interactive session by Kanika Khurana, General Manager, from Jagran New Media, which focused on news, current affairs and the importance of understanding events from multiple perspectives.
The session was intended to encourage young students to move beyond discussions on global challenges and explore practical, creative solutions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Jagran Josh Session Connected Current Affairs with Student Learning
During the summit, Kanika interacted with students and used the recent floods in Nepal as an example to explain how major events are reported and consumed by audiences. She used real world events to demonstrate how a single development can be reported and interpreted through different perspectives.
Through a quiz and audience interaction, she encouraged students to think about how they receive, understand and respond to news.
13 Schools of Delhi NCR Participated
13 Delhi NCR schools which participated in the summit included, Pathways School Gurgaon, Scottish High International School, Vega School Sector 48, King's College Gurgaon, Shiv Nadar School, Heritage International Xperiential School, Pathways World School, King's College Rohtak, Vega School Sector 76, DPS International, Satya School, Lancers International School and Manav Rachna International School, Faridabad.
Students developed and shared models and ideas on issues connected with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which was inline with the main component of the event, Design Thinking Challenge. The exercise brought an experiential dimension to the SDGs, allowing students to work with sustainability not merely as a topic of discussion but as a problem-solving exercise.
Sandy Khanda Delivered Keynote on Climate Change
Sandy Khanda, Founder of Green Pencil Foundation, was the keynote speaker at the summit. He addressed students on climate change and how can the students play an important role in creating a sustainable future.
He spoke about how the environmental challenges such as floods, heat waves and cloudbursts have become very common and increased over the period of time and also how these are affecting communities, wildlife and ecosystems.
“Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing our world today. We are seeing floods, heat waves, cloudbursts and many other problems that affect people, wildlife and our planet. But there is hope,” Khanda said while addressing the students.
He said, “Sustainable Development Goals are not only the job of governments and big organisations. It starts with us with our ideas, our choices and our actions.”
The summit provided students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with current affairs, sustainability and real-world problem solving.
