NIRF Ranking 2026: The Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India, is about to release the NIRF Rankings 2026 on its portal nirfindia.org. This ranking assessment happens every year and measures the performance of higher education institutes in India in terms of five major criteria, namely Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR); Research & Professional Practice (RP); Graduation Outcomes (GO); Outreach & Inclusivity (OI); and Perception (PR). TLR and RP carry equal weightage of 30%, which includes faculty members’ quality, infrastructure, scientific publishing, and patenting.
Graduation outcomes get a weightage of 20%, which is based on placement figures, higher education enrollment rates, and salary levels; Outreach and Inclusivity gets 10% weightage with respect to geographical distribution, gender balance, and socio-economic diversification. The remaining 10% is Peer Perception, which is measured from opinions of academic peers and employer organizations. Institutes participate in this ranking competition in a number of streams such as Overall, Universities, Colleges, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Law, Architecture, Open Universities, and Skill Universities. In previous years, premier institutes like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, and IIT Bombay have topped the overall ranking.
