Telangana Class 10 Students Protest Over Social Studies Teacher Vacancy

According to the students, the school has been facing a shortage of Social Studies teachers for several years. Local reports cited in the NDTV report put the vacancy period at between two and four years. However, the current Class 10 students said the issue has become particularly concerning as around four months of the academic year have already passed without regular Social Studies classes.

One of the protesting students said that the school has not had a Social Studies teacher for four months and that no part of the syllabus has been covered so far. Students also said that the school has very few teachers, with some teachers handling multiple subjects and additional classes.

Students Raise Concerns Over Class 10 Board Exam Preparation

The absence of a Social Studies teacher has raised concerns among Class 10 students about their examination preparation. Students questioned how they would complete the Social Studies syllabus and prepare for the Class 10 examination without a regular subject teacher.

The students appealed to the district education authorities to address the teacher shortage at the earliest. They also said they would continue their protest until a Social Studies teacher was appointed.

Telangana School Students Also Flag Basic Facilities

Apart from the teacher shortage, the students raised concerns about basic facilities at the school. According to the students, the school lacks an adequate water supply, proper toilets and a playground.

They also raised concerns about food facilities and requested the District Education Officer (DEO) to intervene and take necessary action.

DEO Assures Students of Social Studies Teacher Appointment

The protest also resulted in a heated exchange between some parents and school teachers. The agitation was eventually called off after the District Education Officer assured the students that a Social Studies teacher would be appointed within two to three days.

The assurance comes as Class 10 students prepare for their upcoming examinations and seek to address the learning gap caused by the absence of a regular Social Studies teacher.
