JEE Main 2024: The Delhi High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the procedure of normalisation score based on percentile adopted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the JEE Main exam for admission into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The Delhi HC stated that the petition filed by Setu Vinit Goneka did not meet the threshold. The court also mentioned that the challenge does not deserve to be entertained as the petitioner was fully aware of the normalisation procedure before appearing for the examination.
Petitioner Aware Of The Normalisation Procedure
The court termed the challenge as ‘somewhat nebulous’ and added that the petitioner was in full consciousness of the procedure, and went ahead and undertook the examination. The order further mentioned that a candidate cannot, in awareness of the system of conducting an examination and the marking process adopted in that regard, challenge the examination after the results are declared.
Challenged Procedure Is A Statistical Process
‘The procedure of normalisation based on percentile score is a detailed statistical process,’ the Delhi High Court said. The NTA adopted a procedure and a formula on the recommendation of a high-powered committee in November 2018. The procedure was further reviewed in October 2020. The court added that the procedure adopted by the NTA applies across the country to every student who undertakes the IIT JEE examinations.
Moreover, Justice Shankar also contended that the normalisation procedure should not be a ground for judging the performance of any student as they all appear for the same exam through different shifts randomly allocated by the NTA.
