The Bihar government has announced a significant increase in the monthly stipend for postgraduate medical students. These students play an important role in patient care and hospital services across the state. They work with senior doctors and handle many important duties in hospitals every day. The revised stipend comes into effect from January 1, 2026. The decision is a positive step for medical education in Bihar. It aims to support young doctors who work hard during their training years and improve daily hospital services.

New Monthly Stipend Rates For PG Medical Students

The monthly stipend for first year postgraduate medical students has been increased from Rs 82,000 to Rs 92,800. This is a rise of Rs 10,800 every month. Second year students will now receive Rs 102,000 per month instead of Rs 90,200. Their monthly stipend has gone up by Rs 11,800. Third year postgraduate medical students will get Rs 112, 200 every month against the earlier amount of Rs 99,220. This is an increase of Rs 12,980 per month. The new rates will benefit students in all three years of the course. The hike shows that the state values the contribution of young doctors in daily hospital work.

Better Financial Support And Quality Medical Education

Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar said the revised stipend would provide better financial support to postgraduate medical students. He noted that PG students play an active role in patient treatment and hospital services under the supervision of senior doctors. He added that the decision will encourage quality human resources in the field of medical education. The announcement brings relief to young doctors who manage ward duties and patient care along with their studies. Better pay can help them focus on learning and serve patients with more confidence. A higher stipend can also reduce the financial pressure on students during their course. The move is expected to motivate more students to pursue postgraduate medical education in the state.
