The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Delhi has directed that school principals, vice-principals and assistant professors be engaged as Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) for work related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The officials will handle claims and objections outside their regular teaching hours.
The direction comes as the claims and objections period for the Delhi SIR 2026 exercise is underway. According to the CEO Delhi, eligible electors can submit claims for inclusion in the draft electoral roll until September 30, 2026.

Delhi SIR 2026: Principals, Vice-Principals to Work After Teaching Hours
As per the communication issued by the Delhi CEO's office, school principals, vice-principals and assistant professors will be appointed as AEROs across the capital's 13 districts for disposal of claims and objections related to the SIR exercise.
The officials will be assigned electoral duties before or after their teaching hours. Depending on the school's schedule, the work may be carried out during the morning or evening shift. They may also be engaged on non-teaching days and holidays.
The Delhi CEO's office has asked district election authorities to ensure necessary compliance with the directions.

What Is Delhi SIR 2026?
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is an electoral roll revision exercise being conducted in Delhi. The draft electoral roll was published on August 31, 2026, following the enumeration exercise.
The CEO Delhi website states that electors can search their names in the draft electoral roll using their EPIC number, name or mobile number. Those whose names are not included in the draft roll can submit Form 6 along with the required declaration during the claims and objections period. The current claims and objections period will continue until September 30, 2026.

Delhi SIR 2026: What Happens After September 30?
The claims and objections window will close on September 30, 2026. The CEO Delhi has stated that notices issued to electors will be dealt with through the prescribed process, and the concerned EROs/AEROs will examine claims and supporting documents.
The Delhi CEO has also clarified that issuance of a notice does not by itself mean that a voter's name will be deleted. Electors are given an opportunity to submit their response and documents before the concerned electoral registration authorities.
As per the schedule cited by the CEO's office, the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.
