The Karnataka government is set to introduce Common Entrance Test (CET) coaching in 200 government pre-university (PU) colleges across the state. The initiative is aimed at helping students prepare for competitive entrance examinations for professional courses such as engineering and medicine.

The programme is expected to particularly benefit students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds who may have limited access to private coaching facilities.

Daily Classes for PCMB Students

Under the initiative, students studying the Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology (PCMB) combination will receive 90 minutes of CET coaching every day after their regular college hours.

The coaching will be provided without any additional financial burden on students. The programme will allow students to prepare for the entrance examination while continuing with their regular PU curriculum.

1,500 Lecturers Receive Training

Officials said, the preparations for implementing the programme are already underway. Around 1,500 science lecturers have undergone specialised training to conduct CET coaching.

The 200 colleges selected for the first phase will conduct the coaching through offline classes on their respective campuses.

Online Support for 574 Colleges

Students enrolled in the remaining 574 government PU colleges will be able to access CET preparation through online classes.

Officials said the programme will also provide guidance for other competitive examinations, giving students additional support for higher education and employment opportunities.

Focus on Upgrading Government PU Colleges

The CET coaching programme is part of a wider effort by the Karnataka government to strengthen government PU colleges.

As part of the modernisation drive, facilities such as libraries, computer laboratories and high-tech science laboratories are also being upgraded. The government is seeking to improve the academic environment and learning resources available to students.m

Nearly 45,000 Fresh Admissions

Government PU colleges recorded nearly 45,000 fresh admissions during the current academic year, highlighting the scale of students who could potentially benefit from improved academic and competitive-exam support.

Through the CET coaching initiative, the state government aims to make entrance-exam preparation more accessible to students and reduce their dependence on private coaching, particularly in areas where such facilities are limited.
