Sangita Srivastava has been reappointed as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Allahabad University (AU) for a second term of five years, becoming the first person in the university's history to be reappointed to the post.
According to a senior Ministry of Education official, President Droupadi Murmu, in her capacity as Visitor of the University of Allahabad, has approved Srivastava's appointment for another five years or until she attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.
Sangita Srivastava Gets Second Term
Srivastava had assumed charge as the VC of Allahabad University on November 30, 2020, becoming the first woman to head the university. Her first five-year term was scheduled to end on November 29, 2025. However, her tenure was extended until the appointment process for her successor was completed.
Her appointment letter for the second term was received by Allahabad University on September 23, which also coincided with the university's foundation day. Allahabad University Public Relations Officer Jaya Kapoor said an order appointing Srivastava for a second term was issued on behalf of the President on Tuesday. The Ministry of Education also informed the university about the appointment.
Reacting to her reappointment, Srivastava said she remains committed to serving the institution and society and will continue working towards making the university a centre of excellence in education.
AU's Achievements During First Term
During Srivastava's first tenure, Allahabad University received an A+ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The university also implemented a four-year undergraduate programme in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
According to the university, around 400 teachers were recruited and more than 280 faculty members were promoted during her first term. The recruitment drive also included 636 non-teaching employees.
Other initiatives included the installation of a Roll of Honour board featuring 256 distinguished alumni at the Vijayanagaram campus and the establishment of a day-care centre at the Faculty of Science. Following the announcement, faculty members, employees and students of Allahabad University welcomed Srivastava's reappointment for a second term.
