The Medical Education Department of Uttarakhand has taken strict action after detecting admission fraud in medical colleges. The MBBS admissions of four female students have been cancelled for securing seats using fake certificates under a reserved category, ANI reported.
Admissions cancelled over forged quota certificates
Director of Medical Education Ashutosh Sayana, speaking to ANI in Dehradun on Thursday, confirmed the action. He said four female students who had secured admission under the Freedom Fighter Dependent Quota had submitted forged documents and their admissions have been annulled.
He said the fraud was detected during the ongoing NEET counselling process in the state.
Five suspicious cases found during counselling
Sayana said NEET counselling in Uttarakhand is conducted completely online in a transparent manner. Merit lists and results are published on the official website.
During scrutiny, five candidates were found with suspicious certificates. The matter was immediately referred to the concerned district authorities for verification.

FIRs registered against students and families
The department has taken a serious view of the breach and initiated criminal action. FIRs have been registered against the accused students and their family members at Clement Town and Raipur police stations in Dehradun.
The cases have been filed under Sections 318(4), 338 and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) which deal with cheating and forgery of documents.
Academic session yet to begin
Providing details about the timing of the action, Sayana said the second round of counselling is still underway and the academic session has not commenced. Therefore, the students whose admissions were cancelled had not started attending classes. He said certificates are physically verified at the college level at the time of admission.
Physical verification to be mandatory
To prevent such fraud in the future, the department has decided to tighten the verification system. All certificates submitted by candidates who have availed benefits under Uttarakhand NEET counselling, whether under domicile quota or any other category, will now be physically sent to the issuing authorities for verification, as per ANI.
The move is aimed at ensuring transparency and ensuring that only genuinely eligible candidates get the benefit of reservation in medical admissions.
