Maharashtra schools and colleges: As per the media reports, State Minister Aditya Thackeray informed that the government will review the situation and make a decision regarding closing the schools and universities after reviewing. The decision to close schools and colleges in Maharashtra will be taken after assessing the situation in the state after 15 days. He shared this information while attending the convocation ceremony of Mumbai University.

As per reports, the state minister said, “People need to stay masked up. The decision regarding school and college will be taken after looking at the situation 15 days from now. This is anyway the holiday season. It is not a great idea to close down the campuses.”
Meanwhile, Maharashtra has been witnessing a rise in the number of cases since the Christmas weekend, with nearly 900 cases reported only from Mumbai. Omicron cases are also steadily rising in the state, with new 26 cases reported yesterday, taking the tally up to 167.
13 Students from Pune Engineering College test positive for COVID
Recently, as per media reports, close to 13 students from an Engineering college in Pune, Maharashtra has tested positive for COVID-19. The students are in the third year of their engineering programme and are asymptomatic and isolated at home currently.
Officials have also stated that a close watch is being kept on the health of the students and the officials are also in touch with the families. Offline classes of the batch have been shifted to the online mode for now.
Maharashtra Schools May Close Again If Omicron Cases Rises
Earlier, Maharashtra Education Minister for Schools, Varsha Gaikwad has indicated the possibility of shutting schools again. Talking about the threat of Omicron cases in Maharashtra, state Education Minister for School, Varsha Gaikwad has said, “If Omicron cases continue to rise, we may take a call to shut the schools again. We are monitoring the situation.” However, as of now, there is no official announcement regarding the closing down of schools.
