Delhi University's application process for admission to under graduate courses which started on 4 June 2012, comes to an end today, 18 June 2012.
Since times immemorial , Sports quota has helped students get to the college of their choice by acknowledging their prowess for the game that they have been playing. Till some time back, colleges in Delhi University had sports quota for the popular games only, but the 2012-2013 session has seen colleges like Ramjas and Miranda House (to name a few) offering sports quota for games such as Judo, Archery, Volleyball, Shooting, Tennis and Basketball.
Most colleges are closing the sports quota applications today, 18 June 2012, with the physical test scheduled for 22 June 2012 and the list of the students shortlisted to take the trials will be up on the following day 23 June 2012. Direct admissions via sports quota is also possible for those athletes who fall into the super category of sports people. It must also be noted that non-super athletes will also need to come up with a proof of having distinguished themselves in the past three years. The sport events should also be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Indian Olympic Association.
However, the news is that, this year nailing a seat in D.U through the quota could be a difficult bet. Last year's allegations on favoritism only resulted into lot many colleges eventually scrapping the ECA and Sports quota admissions. Though some strictness would be levied on the sports quota this year, equal weightage would be given to the trials and the certificates.
The Delhi University, very recently came out with the guidelines for admissions under the sports quota which are as follows:
- There would be an equal weight age distributed amongst the Class 12 marks and the trials. Meaning, 50 percent weightage would be given to the marks attained in Class 12 examination, while the rest of the fifty would depend on the trials.
- In order to qualify for the admissions, the students need to attain a minimum of 18 marks out of 50.
- Though the technical committee of the university will confer the marks for the trial, the final decision would only lie in the hands of the college.
- The students who have participated in a sport at National or International level will get through the admissions through the Super Category
- The sports quota is applicable for all B.Com, B.A, B.S C pass and honors courses. The quota is however not applicable in the engineering courses, as students would be required to sit for the entrance exams for the same.
With a host of changes introduced in D.U in alliance to sports quota, it is going to be a ‘wait and perform' game for most students who wish to get to their favorite college through sports backing. Jagran Josh wishes all the aspirants a very best for their future endeavors.
