St Stephens College came abreast with their first cut off list on 20 June 2012. With 22,000 aspirants fighting it out for 420 seats, the competition has turned more fierce. Stephens raised their cut off bars between 0.25 percent and 2 percent in the popular courses this year, 2012.
While courses like Chemistry Hons, Economics Hons and Philosophy hons saw marginal jump in comparison to 2011, what came as a surprise is the bench mark for the physically handicapped category. For the PH category, Philosophy Hons saw a twelve percent jump, also there was a five percent hike seen in Economic Hons. Cut throat competition was seen in English, where 119 candidates applied for every seat, which was followed by Economics with 98.5 aspirants for each seat and BSc (Honours) in Mathematics received 991 applications, the highest among the Science courses.
With the first stage of elimination over on 20 June 2011, there is a mixed bag of emotions doing the rounds. While some are busy preparing for the interview, a part of the fraternity seems to be dejected and packing bags.
There is a huge gamble pyramid playing , the probability to get through the interview is very competitive. Out of every five students that would be called, only one would make it to the prestigious corridors. The selected candidates will soon be notified for the next level-interview, which is likely to take place any day between 25 June 2012 to 8 July 2012.
