Delhi University saw some heavy bout of emotions this year, 2012. With the weather going bizarre, and the cut off soaring, the issues added themselves to the list of ‘students woes’. 2 July 2012 kick started the ECA admissions for various colleges, and the day stood testimony to not only bad weather but also some raised voices. The day stood as a mark of the last chance to take admission as per the second cut-off list.
Hindu college stood at the receiving end of the bad temper of the students as some students apparently got into a heated conversation with a guard who was physically keeping him from entering the veranda encircling the venue of the debate trials. Though they threatened to report him to the Principal for being allegedly intemperate, the plan got shelved the moment a teacher came out of the debating room and called the next student inside.
Other such stop was that of Ramjas College, where the never-ending lines and admission procedure wasn’t going too well with many students. This year the OBC candidature in the colleges also took a nasty turn, with some OBC students crying foul. The protest was being carried out by about 10 organizations who were alleging discrepancy in admissions to the OBC candidates in Ramjas College
Amongst the friendly colleges, Kirori Mal College topped the list , where a notice-board was put up with many debating topics and students had to pick and choose the topic .There were no chalk and paste registrations needed, which was a welcome break for all the much hassled students .
While talking about the quota system, Delhi University also has a major quota system on sports that admit students who are exceptionally good at it. Delhi University generally allots five percent on ECA and Sports quota on the total number of seats each year.
With the admissions almost standing on a dead end, the students who couldn’t get any luck in the regular colleges, could resort to distance learning or the School of Open Learning, Delhi University (SOL). To read about distance learning options, CLICK HERE
Though the admissions this year , 2012 have so far been a mixed bag of good news and controversies, the smiling faces and the eventually satisfied students are an assurance to the University and the parents of course. Josh wishes all its students a very best in all their future endeavors.
