Due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor, several states and Union Territories have decided to close educational institutions as a precautionary measure.

In Delhi, some private schools switched to online classes on Friday to ensure student safety.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the government has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities till Saturday. Many schools have shifted to online classes to avoid loss of academic time. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the decision will be reviewed on Monday. In Leh, all schools will also remain closed for the same period.

In Rajasthan, schools in border districts like Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer have been shut. Colleges in Jodhpur have also been closed. A night-time blackout was imposed in these districts from midnight as a precaution.

The Punjab government has announced a three-day closure of all educational institutions. In the Tricity area (Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula), schools were closed on Friday and Saturday. Panjab University postponed its exams scheduled for May 9, 10, and 12.

In Haryana, all schools and colleges in Panchkula are also closed on Friday and Saturday.

These measures aim to safeguard students and staff during this period of heightened security alert.

Meanwhile, schools in several states across India will remain closed on May 12 in observance of Buddha Purnima, a significant religious festival celebrated to mark the birth of Lord Buddha.     Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has clearly stated that universities will be held personally accountable for ensuring the safety and well-being of students during the current situation. Bains also mentioned that students who wish to return home can do so without academic penalties, and exams may be rescheduled or other arrangements made. The minister warned that any negligence in student safety will lead to strict action, and university authorities will be held personally responsible.

    Schools in Kashmir move to online mode

    Schools in Kashmir are operating classes via online mode in view of the ongoing situation. As the schools have remained closed since May 7, the private schools in the valley started online classes for their students on Friday. However, the government schools have not announced the conduct of online classes. The government has closed all schools, colleges, and universities as a precautionary measure in view of the situation along the borders.
