Lovely Professional University has suspended regular classes for students for 10 days. Classes have been suspended from today, September 28, 2026. The university has also postponed mid-term examinations following the protests by students that turned violent.
As per reports, the university has suspended classes to ensure the safety and well-being of students. Students at Lovely Professional University have been protesting over the alleged assault of a female student by a campus worker and the lack of action taken by the university administration.
As per reports, the university has stated that a fresh examination schedule will be released separately through the University Management System (UMS).
LPU Student Protests: Important Note Issued By the University
1. Regular classes will remain suspended for a period of 10 days with effect from September 28, 2026 (Monday).
2. Mid-Term Examinations are postponed until further notice. The revised examination schedule will be communicated separately via UMS.
3. Students may, in consultation with their parents/guardians, travel to their hometowns during these 10 days, if they wish to do so.
4. Students who stay back are advised to stay inside their hostels/places of residence and avoid unnecessary movement or involvement in any unrest activities in the interest of their own safety.
Videos have emerged from the campus showing a large group of students protesting, demanding justice. The situation reportedly escalated when a few students damaged window panes and other campus utilities, setting fire to objects, including parts of the university building. A group of students also reportedly blocked the Jalandhar-Phagwara national highway, causing a heavy traffic jam.
The university has also reportedly issued a statement mentioning that the rumours circulating on social media are false and misleading and circulated by mischievous sources; students have been advised not to participate in any unrest and to remain safe inside their hostel rooms or residence. Students have also been asked to avoid involvement in any provocative or disruptive activities and cooperate in maintaining a calm and orderly campus environment.
