Chitkara University Classes Suspended: Chitkara University in Rajpura, Punjab, has suspended regular academic activities from September 28 to October 1, 2026, amid student unrest following unverified social media claims about the alleged deaths of two female students on campus. The university has declared these four days as “non-teaching working days” citing administrative reasons. Faculty and staff, however, have been asked to report to work as usual.
The decision comes days after a student protest broke out at the university campus over rumours regarding two allegedly missing female students and claims of suicide. Police and the university have said that no such death or suicide was reported, while an inquiry was initiated to verify the claims.

Chitkara University Protest: What Happened?
The unrest at Chitkara University began after unverified messages circulated among students regarding two female students who were allegedly missing. Some social media posts also claimed that the students had died by suicide.
The claims triggered panic among hostel residents, with students reportedly gathering on campus late Friday night and demanding clarification from the university administration. Students also raised questions about alleged screams heard from the girls hostel and the presence of ambulances on campus.
Chitkara University Suicide Rumours: What Did Police Say?
Police said that students who raised concerns about two allegedly missing girls could not provide their names, photographs, roll numbers or other identifying details. Officials said they would verify university records and investigate the claims.
Patiala police later said that their inquiry did not find evidence supporting the claims of a suicide or missing students. Medical authorities also reportedly confirmed that no post-mortem involving a Chitkara University student had been conducted in recent days.

Chitkara University Clarification on Ambulance and Hostel Claims
Chitkara University denied the allegations circulating on social media and urged students and parents not to rely on unverified information.
The university clarified that an ambulance had arrived at the girls hostel in the early hours of September 24, but it was related to a student who had returned from a hospital. According to the university, there was no death or suicide associated with the incident.
