Pondicherry University has proposed to set up a chapter of the Society for Neurochemistry India (SNCI) on its campus. The proposal was discussed during the three-day Annual Conference of the Society for Neurochemistry India conducted at the University. The university hosted the 40th annual conference from September 24 to 26, 2026. Details regarding the SNCI chapter was mentioned in the press release issued by the University, as per media reports.
The proposal to set up an SNCI chapter at the university will strengthen research and academic skills among students and research scholars. The conference brought together almost 3509 researchers from across the country and abroad.
The SNCI conference was conducted at the Department of Life Sciences and inaugurated by Pondicherry University VC P Prakash Babu. SNCI President Amitabha Chattopadhyay was also among those speaking at the event.
As per reports, Deputy Registrar K Magesh, while speaking at the conference, provided an opportunity to strengthen practical research skills among students and young researchers. Pondicherry University VC has also expressed his interest in establishing an SNCI chapter at the university. As per the press release issued by the university, the proposed chapter is intended to help students and research scholars develop their research skills and engage with developments in the field.
The conference focuses on developments in Neurochemistry and related areas, including integrative neurochemistry, neuroinformatics and therapeutics. During the event, discussions were also conducted on artificial intelligence, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, brain imaging and electrophysiology.
As per media reports, in a press release issued by the university it has been mentioned that the university is planning to set up a chapter of the Society in the University to strengthen the skills of students and research scholars. The SNCI chapter will also support opportunities for students and research scholars to develop skills and engage with the wider research community. The SNCI chapter is also expected to provide an institutional platform for activities related to neurochemistry and research at Pondicherry University.
Researchers at the conference also discussed the challenges associated with developing treatments for neurological disorders. Topics discussed at the event also included drug delivery across the blood-brain barrier and identifying potential therapeutic targets. Researchers and academicians also discussed emerging areas of neuroscience and related biomedical research.
