Schools in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, will remain closed today, September 26, 2026, following continuous heavy rainfall, waterlogging and an India Meteorological Department (IMD) red alert for the region. The closure will apply to students from pre-primary to Class 8.
According to the order issued by the District Basic Education Officer (BSA), Prayagraj, the holiday covers government, aided, recognised private schools as well as institutions affiliated with CBSE, ICSE and other boards in the district.

Prayagraj Schools Closed Today: Classes Pre-Primary to 8
All schools in Prayagraj catering to students from pre-primary through Class 8 have been directed to suspend teaching activities on September 26. The decision has been taken considering the prevailing weather conditions and student safety.
The closure is applicable to schools affiliated with the Basic Education Council, CBSE, ICSE and other boards, meaning students across different school boards will not have regular classes today.
Why Are Prayagraj Schools Closed Today?
Prayagraj has been witnessing continuous rainfall and waterlogging, creating difficult conditions for commuting and raising concerns about the safety of students.
The IMD's September 25 warning listed extremely heavy rainfall for East Uttar Pradesh on September 26, along with the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and squall-like conditions.
In view of the weather conditions and the red alert, the district authorities ordered schools up to Class 8 to remain closed for the day.

Will Prayagraj Schools Reopen on September 27?
The September 26 closure is a one-day weather-related school holiday for classes up to Class 8. Any further closure will depend on subsequent orders issued by the district administration and prevailing weather conditions.
The IMD forecast issued on September 25 also indicated heavy rainfall in East Uttar Pradesh on September 27, although the warning level was lower than that issued for September 26.
