Opportunities of Promotion for SDM

RAS Officers start their service as Assistant Collector and Executive Magistrate in training period. After the training, they are posted as SDM. Promotion is granted to SDM through the Departmental Promotion Committee, which is headed by the Chairman of the Commission, in accordance with the rules framed by the State Government. The SDM will get the first promotion after 8–9 years of the service and usually retires after one or two promotions. The promotion is slower in comparison to the UPSC recruits.
