The Gujarat Directorate of Primary Education has announced an administrative transfer camp for head teachers working in government primary schools across the state. The transfer exercise will be conducted on October 28, 2026, based on sanctioned staff strength and the applicable government rules.
The decision has been taken to rationalise the deployment of head teachers in government primary schools. Head teachers posted at schools where the sanctioned head teacher post is no longer admissible according to the student strength recorded as of July 31 will be considered for administrative transfer.
Why Are Gujarat Head Teachers Being Transferred?
The transfer exercise is linked to the prescribed student-strength norms for government primary schools. If a school no longer meets the required student strength for a head teacher post, the position can be treated as surplus.
Under the latest directive, eligible head teachers working under district and municipal education committees will be considered for transfer through the administrative camp. The exercise will be carried out in accordance with the Gujarat Education Department's resolution dated July 20, 2024.

District Authorities To Conduct Transfer Process
The Directorate has directed District Primary Education Officers (DPEOs) and other concerned administrative authorities to complete the transfer process within the prescribed schedule. The authorities have also been asked to ensure that the transfers follow the approved staffing pattern and applicable rules.
The administrative transfer camps will be conducted across the state on October 28 for head teachers who meet the eligibility criteria.
What About Posts Involved In Court Cases?
The directive also includes instructions for posts that are involved in pending court cases. Where a High Court has ordered that a particular post should remain vacant through an interim order and the final judgment is still pending, authorities have been directed to act strictly according to the court's directions.
Aim Is To Rationalise School Staffing
The administrative transfer exercise is intended to ensure that head teacher posts are deployed according to the approved staffing requirements and the actual student strength of schools.
The move will affect head teachers whose existing posts have become surplus under the prescribed norms. District-level authorities will be responsible for implementing the transfer process in accordance with the Directorate's instructions.
