The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal will close the registration window for admission into its January 2027 PhD cohort on October 12, 2026 at 11:59 pm. Candidates can apply for research across several disciplines including Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences.
IISER Bhopal PhD Admissions Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for the IISER Bhopal January 2027 PhD programme, candidates should not be older than 28 years. Age relaxation of up to 3 years for OBC (Non Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC/ST/PD/Female applicants is applicable.
The candidate must hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering/Technology, or Master’s or equivalent degree in science, or Master's or equivalent degree in Arts/Commerce (or allied subjects).
To qualify with these degree for the admission, applications must also possess one of the following documents:
- Valid GATE score
- Selected through National Eligibility Test – UGC NET /CSIR/NBHM etc. including lectureship (Assistant Professorship)
- Selected through a National level examination conducted by MHRD or its agencies /Institutions such as UGC/ IIT/IISER/IISc./IIIT etc.
- Selected to appear in the NBHM PhD scholarship interview after having qualified the written exam in 2026.
How To Apply without Qualifying a National Exam?
Candidates can apply for the PhD admissions without a national examination, if they have received a degree in the following courses:
- Integrated M.Tech (5 Year’s Degree)
- Those with B.Tech. from IITs or BS-MS from IISERs with CGPA/CPI more than 8.0 on a 10 point scale.
- (4-years) B.Tech/BE with (2-Years) M.Tech/ME (4+2 Years)
IISER Bhopal PhD Admissions: Selection Procedure
Students who get shortlisted after applying online will be called for an interview. As per the government rules, IISER Bhopal will provide TA to SC/ST students appearing for the interview.
