Candidates appearing for Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) will have an edge over those appearing for Management Aptitude Test (MAT) in terms of number of questions to be attempted and nature of test. CMAT exam is good for those students who are from Maharashtra as DTE (Directorate of Technical Education), Maharashtra considers best of the two scores out of CMAT score and MAHCET score (either you need to take the CMAT or MAHCET) to provide you access in the top colleges like JBIMS and other top institutes of Mumbai/Pune.

CMAT will have a total of 100 questions across 4 sections (25 questions for each section) that need to be attempted over 180 minutes. This gives candidates ample time to spend on a particular question/ section. However, candidates appearing for MAT will have to attempt 200 questions across 5 sections (40 questions for each section) that need to be attempted over 150 minutes. Since CMAT will be held for the first time, candidates can use the facility of Trial Test provided by AICTE to know the nature of paper.
Besides this, CMAT in the computerized format once in a year and on the other hand MAT is conducted four times in a year (i.e. February, May, September and December) in both paper based format and computer based format at specific test venues.
So both the exams holds relevance depending upon the focus of the exam aspirant. Where one can plan to miss a single attempt of MAT exam in a year, CMAT cannot be missed as it is conducted once a year.
