UPSC Mains Result 2021: Extra Chance Demand
The Supreme Court on Monday granted two weeks' time to the Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) to respond to a petition by three civil services aspirants, who could not attempt the exam of the UPSC Mains due to Covid 19.
The bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and CT Ravikumar while deferring the matter for March 21, 2022, in their order said, "As requested by Mr Kaushik for UPSC, defer till March 21. Affidavit be filed by the parties before the next date."
Advocate Naresh Kaushik for UPSC sought 2 weeks' time to take instructions in this case. The advocate appearing for the UPSC candidates demanded lesser time as the UPSC Interviews 2021 are scheduled in April 2022. He said, “Only the time. If they can respond within 10 days or a lesser spell, there could be some accommodation for the petitioners in the interview. Some petitioners have missed 2 exams and others have missed all the 7 exams."
UPSC Mains 2021 Extra Chance: What was the Petition?
The petition stated that many aspirants could not appear in UPSC Mains 2021 due to the pandemic situation. Therefore they are demanding an extra attempt to appear in the UPSC Mains exam. It is not similar to the Extra Attempt plea that was already filed in the Supreme Court for CSE in the year 2020.
One can go through the actual words of the petition- "The Petitioners No. 1 to 3 could not give UPSC Mains Examination being Covid Positive and owing to the restrictions imposed under the strict quarantine guidelines of the Government."
The petitioners also argued that UPSC not having any policy regarding such conditions is a clear violation of Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution. Many were of the view that had there been Covid Positive candidates at the centre, the others could have been infected and a life-threatening situation would have been caused.
The SC had earlier refused to grant an extra attempt to those candidates who could not appear in the 2020 exam, neither did it grant them any age relaxation on those grounds.
However, one could gather from the above petitions and the arguments made in the apex court that the UPSC Mains Results 2021 could be expected soon now.
