Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on September 29 congratulated the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-linked Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) after the student organisation recorded wins at several colleges across the state.
ABVP won key positions in several colleges in Uttarakhand, including DAV PG College in Dehradun, where ABVP candidate Navdeep Rana was elected president. The organisation also recorded victories at other major campuses in the state.
At MKP College in Dehradun, ABVP won most of the key posts, while at Mussoorie’s MPG College, the organisation won all three posts that went to polls. ABVP-backed candidates also secured the president’s posts at colleges in Almora and Bageshwar. However, the results were mixed across the state, with NSUI and independent candidates also winning positions at different campuses.
CM Dhami Congratulates ABVP
Dhami congratulated the winning ABVP candidates and said the results reflected support among young voters for the organisation and its student welfare activities.
In his reaction, Dhami said the results showed that Uttarakhand’s youth were not being influenced by what he described as an “echo of lies”. He said the outcome reflected support for nationalist thinking and an organisation working for the welfare of students.
The Chief Minister also said the results sent a message to forces that, according to him, try to divide young people on the basis of caste or make remarks that he considered disrespectful towards the armed forces and prominent national figures. He said the voting results showed the response of Uttarakhand’s youth to such attempts.
ABVP Wins Three Posts In DUSU Elections
The Uttarakhand results came days after the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results, where ABVP won three of the four central posts. Yash Dabas was elected president, Riya Chhawdi won the secretary’s post and Lakshya Raj Singh secured the joint secretary’s post.
Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president’s post. Dabas defeated NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena in the presidential contest by 2,053 votes, while Chhawdi secured 21,650 votes for the secretary’s post. Lakshya Raj Singh won the joint secretary’s post with 16,615 votes.
The DUSU results followed student union elections across several colleges and came ahead of the Uttarakhand student union results, where ABVP also secured positions at multiple campuses.
