Number of Vacancies

The cut-off depends largely on this factor. The number of vacancies decides what will be the cut-off of an exam. This can be understood simply as when the number of the vacancies is more, the cut-off remains low and if the number of the vacancies is less, then the cut-off remains high.

Number of Candidates

This factor indicates the level of competition among the candidates. The logic is simple: higher the number of candidates in the exam; higher will be the level of competition and hence the cut-off becomes higher.

Difficulty Level of the Question Paper

The difficulty level of the question paper also plays an important role in deciding the cut-off of an exam. If the question paper is difficult, then it is expected that the cut-off will remain low and if the question paper is easy then it is expected that the cut-off will remain high.
