CUET UG 2026: What is Class 12 Rule for B.A. English?

The Class 12 Rule (also known as the Subject Mapping policy) is a mandatory criterion required by Delhi University. This mandate is also implemented by several other participating central universities.

To understand this better, students can only appear for CUET UG exams in the subjects they have studied. They should have passed the subject during Class 12 board examinations. One cannot go for the subject on the basis of how easy the subject is for you.

Students can follow this for B.A. (Hons) English while:

  • Students should select English from Section 1A (Languages) in the CUET form.

  • As per the rule, students must have studied and passed English as a subject in the 12th class board exams, whether as core or elective subjects.

  • If a student's instructional language was regional and they have studied languages like Hindi or Sanskrit in Class 12 and have not taken English, the student may get disqualified for the B.A. (Hons) English program at DU.
