The process of NIRF ranking 2026 began in January 2026 with the ministry inviting institutes to submit data by March 2026.

Five core parameters such as graduation rate, research, professional practices, teaching and learning resources and overall impression of the institution are taken into consideration to decide the rank of each institute and university.
