A Delhi University student from Hindu College was allegedly harassed by a group of men travelling in a car in northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area, following which police registered an FIR, officials said on Thursday.
The incident took place around 9:30 pm on Wednesday near Hakikat Park when the student was walking along the road. According to police, four men travelling in a Safari allegedly made lewd remarks, misbehaved with the women and used abusive language.
A written complaint was received following the alleged incident, after which police launched an inquiry and traced the vehicle reportedly involved in the incident.
Police Trace Vehicle
During the investigation, police traced the vehicle to its registered owner. According to police, Naman, son of Anil Kumar, was driving the car at the time and was accompanied by two to three other persons.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Akansha Yadav said police took cognisance of the complaint and were in contact with the women.
“Police launched an inquiry based on the complaint and traced the car allegedly used in the incident,” Yadav said.
Police said the accused persons have been identified and immediate action is being taken.
FIR Registered At Mukherjee Nagar Police Station
An FIR, numbered 390/26, has been registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station under Sections 78, 79 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police are continuing their investigation and examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, including the role of the other persons who were present in the vehicle.
The incident comes amid continuing concerns over the safety of women and students in public spaces in the national capital. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
