From working with India’s Ministry of Railways and Ministry of Education to taking on a student leadership role at one of the world’s leading public policy schools, Pratyush Prabhakar has added another milestone to his journey. The Indian student and public policy professional has been elected Vice-President of Academic Affairs in the student government at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS).
The election brought together students from more than 96 countries and across various programmes at the school, highlighting the diverse student community at HKS.
In his new role, Prabhakar will represent students in discussions on academic matters. He will also co-chair the HKS Academic Affairs Committee with the Dean. The committee looks at issues linked to students’ academic experience, including curriculum, academic advising and other concerns.
Who Is Pratyush Prabhakar?
Prabhakar is currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration at Harvard Kennedy School. He is also an Edward S Mason Fellow, a fellowship aimed at public-sector professionals and leaders from developing countries.
Before joining Harvard, Prabhakar worked with the Indian government. His experience includes working with the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Education. He also worked as a policy and communications adviser to the Union Minister for Railways.
Along with his public-sector work, Prabhakar has founded two organisations, Communeeti and thriWe.
What Will Prabhakar Do at Harvard?
As Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Prabhakar will be involved in discussions related to students’ academic experience. He will bring student views and concerns to the school’s academic leadership through the Academic Affairs Committee.
The role gives him a direct platform to represent students on matters such as curriculum, academic advising and other aspects of academic life.
Pratyush Prabhakar and His Harvard Journey
Prabhakar cited Mahatma Gandhi as an inspiration during his election campaign. The results of the election were announced on October 2, which is observed as Gandhi Jayanti in India. He later referred to the significance of the date in a message following the announcement.
Harvard Kennedy School is Harvard University’s graduate school focused on public policy and government. It offers programmes in areas including public policy, public administration and international development.
