IIT Roorkee PhD Admission 2026-27: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has opened the application process for PhD admissions for the Spring Semester of the 2026-27 academic session. Interested and eligible candidates can apply online through the official IIT Roorkee admission portal.

IIT Roorkee PhD Admission 2026-27: Eligibility Criteria

Candidates applying for IIT Roorkee PhD admission must meet the Common Minimum Eligibility Criteria (CMEC)along with any additional educational requirements specified by the respective department.

In general, candidates applying with a Master's degree need a minimum 6.0 CGPA on a 10-point scale or 60% marks. For candidates belonging to the SC, ST and PwD categories, the minimum requirement is generally 5.50 CGPA or 55% marks. Department-specific requirements may vary. 

Candidates with a four-year Bachelor's degree from institutions other than Ministry of Education-funded technical institutions generally need at least 7.50 CGPA or 75% marks, along with qualification in an applicable national-level examination such as GATE, CEED, JEST, UGC-NET or CSIR-NET, or an equivalent examination/national fellowship, as prescribed. 

IIT Roorkee PhD: Exemption From National-Level Test

Applicants of all categories who hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree from an IIT with a CGPA of 8.0 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the requirement of qualifying in a national-level examination such as GATE, CEED, JEST, UGC-NET or CSIR-NET, subject to the applicable admission conditions. 

IIT Roorkee PhD Admission 2026-27: Sakuntala Fellowship

IIT Roorkee is also offering the Sakuntala (Scheme for Aspirants of Knowledge Under Talent Advancement) Fellowship for eligible female candidates.

The fellowship is available to female candidates holding a BTech, BE, BArch or BDes degree from Ministry of Education-funded technical institutions and having a minimum 8.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale. Eligible candidates can receive a waiver from the GATE/CEED or applicable national-level examination requirement, subject to the institute's conditions.
