The Ministry of Education, Government of India has extended the last date of online applications for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) 2026-27 till October 31, 2026. The eligible candidates are free to apply for fresh/renewal scholarships via NSP, scholarships.gov.in. Such deferment will give enough time to candidates for completing the compulsory one-time registration on the portal and then for completion of multiple-stage verification process. In accordance with new calendar, deadline for Level 1 verification (by Institute Nodal Officer) is December 15, 2026, while deadline for Level 2 (District Nodal Officer) verification process will be on December 30, 2026.
NMMSS aims to reduce dropouts after Class VIII and awards 100,000 new scholarships to meritorious Class IX students coming from economically weaker families studying in state government/government aided/local body schools worth ₹12,000 annually (via Direct Benefit Transfer). To be eligible for NMMSS scholarship, applicant must secure minimum 55% marks in Class VII (with 5% relaxation for SC/ST applicants) and must have family annual income less than ₹3.50 lakh.

How to Apply for NMMSS 2026-27 Scholarship
To apply for the NMMSS 2026-27 Scholarship follow the steps given below:

Visit the National Scholarship Portal website on scholarships.gov.in.
Click on the OTR Registration tab and register through your mobile number and Aadhar details.
Login to the candidate portal using your OTR credentials.
Find the scheme titled 'National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme' under the Department of School Education and Literacy tab.
Enter all the relevant information such as personal details, academic records, and bank account details in the application form.

Submit your duly filled-up application online and make your Institute Nodal Officer aware about it for L1 verification till November 15, 2026.
