Uttar Pradesh state government has announced an increase in the internship stipend for BAMS, BUMS and BHMS students at government institutions. According to the announcement made, the stipend will be increased from Rs 7,500 to Rs 15,000. The decision was made in a cabinet meeting chaired by the UP CM Yogi Adityanath.
The decision will benefit 588 Ayurveda, 150 Unani and 976 Homoeopathy interns and students passing BAMS, BUMS and BHMS exams from government Ayurveda, Unani and Homoeopathy medical colleges, institutions and universities in UP who will undergo compulsory rotating internship.
According to reports, during the internship period, the students will assist medical professionals in treating patients at government Ayurveda, Unani and Homoeopathy Medical Colleges, institutions and universities. Interns will also make an important contribution through their daily duties in the hospital wards, outpatient departments and night shifts.

The UP Chief Minister in a recent press conference also pointed out that the state, which was once identified as One-District-One Mafia, is today establishing new standards in the field of health services with the resolve of One District-One Medical College.
The number of medical colleges in the state was 36 as of 2017, and today it has increased to 85. MBBS seats have also increased from 4,690 to more than 13,600, increasing opportunities for youth in medical education and expanding facilities for quality treatment near homes for common people.
The CM also added that more than 10 crore residents of the state covered under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Abhiyan are living their lives with better health, dignity and honour, free from the worry of heavy expenses of treating serious illnesses.
