MGAHV Wardha To Restart Film and Women Studies Courses From 2027-28

The Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishvavidyalaya (MGAHV) in Wardha has accepted several key demands raised by students. These students had been protesting against course transfers and stalled PhD admissions. The university Executive Council met on Monday and took these decisions. Two Programmes Will Return to the Wardha Campus
The university decided to restart the Women Studies and Film Studies programmes at its Wardha headquarters from the 2027-28 academic session. The university had discontinued both programmes at the Wardha campus in 2022. It had shifted them to its regional centre in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Students had been demanding that these programmes come back to the main campus. The new decision brings both courses home to Wardha.
PhD Admissions Resume and Other Council Decisions
Regular PhD admissions were another major demand of the protesting students. The university said the PhD admission process for the 2022-23 academic session is complete. The admission process for the new academic session has already been started. The university said PhD admissions will now begin and continue on a regular basis.
The council also decided that certificate and diploma programmes will continue as per the National Education Policy 2020. A certificate will be awarded after completion of a one year course. A diploma will be awarded after two years. Vice-Chancellor Prof Kumud Sharma chaired the meeting. The council approved the appointment of new heads of departments and faculty members. It also approved promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme. The university granted in-principle approval for establishing a Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Research Chair.
The agitation also included a demand for the withdrawal of FIRs registered against six research scholars. The Cockroach Janta Party had supported the students and asked for the cases to be withdrawn. The university however maintained that protests should not disrupt academic or administrative functioning. It defended the restrictions imposed on the six scholars until a disciplinary inquiry was completed.
The latest decision addresses several core academic demands of the students. These include the restoration of programmes at the Wardha campus and the regularisation of PhD admissions.
