UGC's Jeevan Kaushal programme to cover Social media etiquettes, yoga, pranayam and resume writing

UGC’s Jeevan Kaushal programme: University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a unique life-skills curriculum under the Jeevan Kaushal programme which helps students learn important skills. According to the official update, the Jeevan Kaushal programme of UGC will help students learn various different life skills including social media, Google Search usage, Yoga and Pranayama as well as Resume Writing. The programme has been launched by the commission which is targeted at under-graduate courses across the country. The programme curriculum is designed and developed by an expert committee which aims to make students better and socially responsive citizens.

Aimed at Inculcating Emotional & Intellectual Competencies

According to the media release, UGC has tailored the Jeevan Kaushal programme in a unique manner that covers different skills that might prove to be very important for the students during different stages of their life. The special life skills programme has been developed to inculcate emotional and intellectual competencies in students and help them develop verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Overall, the Jeevan Kaushal programme carries 8 credit points which can be accommodated into any semester of a UG programme.

Social Media to be Part of life-Skills Curriculum

Considering the importance communication skills, especially on social media platforms, UGC has included specialized modules on social media communication and writing on social media platforms as part of Jeevan Kaushal. Social media being the preferred platform of communication for young students, the commission has designed the social media module to help students understand the challenges and consequences of social media communication. The curriculum will introduce the basic ethics and etiquettes of social media communication to the students as well as improve search skills on Google.

Resume Writing Module

Realizing the challenges that students face while developing a a curriculum vitae (CV), resume and a bio-data for job search; the Jeevan Kaushal programme will also have a dedicated module on it. The module could cover the basic differences between a curriculum vitae (CV), resume and a bio-data and also explain which is to be used when. In addition to this, the module will also teach students to prepare a comprehensive resume that will help pave the way ahead for their entry into the professional world.

Other Skill-based Modules

In addition to the above-mentioned skills, the programme will also a number of difference modules on trust and empathy during which students would be taught to be empathising and trusting colleagues for improving interpersonal relations. The programme will help one understand how to build a good positive personal image and what impact it has on one’s career. In addition to this, networking skills and negotiation skills will also be part of the programme.

Elective Components

As part of the Jeevan Kaushal Programme, UGC will also offer three elective subjects or modules i.e.

1. Integral Human Begin – sensitize students about one’s responsibility towards self, parents and society. The module also includes inclusive living by accepting others and their lifestyles.
2. Yoga & Pranayama – talks about difference between yoga and pranayama and their inter-relatedness.
3. Gratitude – talks about balance between duty and right of people
