Education Ministry Invites Applications for IIT Delhi Director Post: Check Eligibility and How to Apply

IIT Delhi: The Department of Higher Education from the Ministry of Education, Government of India has formally begun the process of recruiting the highly prestigious position of Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). Being one of the leading Institutes of National Importance in India, IIT Delhi is looking forward to hiring an excellent academic and administrative leader who can lead the organisation to international academic excellence, research, and innovation. The candidate selected will be getting a remuneration of ₹225,000 per month and other allowances by the government, usually hired on a contract basis for up to five years.

To qualify for the position of executive leader, candidates need to have a Ph.D. with a First Class or equivalent in the previous degree, preferably in engineering/technology, although candidates who have achieved excellence in science/management could also apply. Candidates should have good research credentials, a minimum of 10 years of experience as a full professor in a reputed technical institute, and administrative experience as well. It would be better if candidates were not more than 60 years old as of the deadline date of applications.

IIT Delhi Director Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria

• Education: Doctoral Degree in First Class/Equivalent in previous degree, preferable in Engineering. (Alternatively, those holding a degree in sciences/mathematics/management can also apply in exceptional cases). 

• Experience in Teaching: 10 Years of experience in teaching as Professor in any reputable engineering/technology institute/university. 

• Experience in Guidance to Ph.D. candidates and a strong academic performance record. 

• Experience in Administration: 5 Years of experience in administration in any academic/ research institute. 

• Age Restriction: Applicants must preferably be below 60 years of age on the date of closing of applications.

• Get access to the official prescribed application form through the official website of the Department of Higher Education at dohe.education.gov.in.   

• Fill up the complete information regarding your personal data, academic qualification, and teaching experience according to official instructions of the application form.

• Submit a well-drafted CV together with 2 pages of suitability statement and 2 pages of strategic vision statement for IIT Delhi.   

• Collect photocopies of your doctoral degree certificate, administrative certificate, academic record, and information about at least two references.   

• Submit all the documents along with application form inside a clearly labeled envelope with "Application for the post of Director, IIT Delhi". 

• Submit the above-mentioned application envelope to the Ministry of Education through Speed/Registered Post before October 31, 2026.
