Different academic courses are offered by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and to seek admission in them, students must qualify JEE (Advanced) 2025. For admission to courses in the Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Indian Institutes of Information and Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Schools of Planning and Architecture, and other government-funded technical institutions, students need to clear JEE (Main) 2025.
The registration for JoSAA counselling 2025 has started. Candidates who have qualified for the JEE (Advanced) 2025 are advised to register. The online portal has shared the list of courses and the number of seats available for each category. The seat allotment follows a fixed schedule. This entire process is done online using a computer-based system.
Criteria for Seat Allotment for the NIT
The JEE Apex Board conducts JEE (Mains), and CSAB sets the seat allotment rules for all the participating institutes offering admission to a wide range of courses through JoSAA Counselling. The CSAB uses a ‘state code of eligibility’ based on where a student first gave their class 12th grade exam from a recognised board.
Below is a list of some of the criteria as set by the CSAB for the admission of academic year 2025-26:-
- If a candidate gave Class 12 from one state and improvement from another, their eligibility is based on the first state.
- For Indian students who studied abroad, the state code is based on the Indian address in their passport, which they must upload with Class 12 documents.
- OCI/PIO (I) students who passed Class 12 in India are treated like Indian nationals, but those who studied abroad can only get seats under Other State or All India quota, not under Home State quota.
Seat Intake of NITs 2025 Through JoSAA Counselling
JoSAA( Joint Seat Allocation Authority) decides how many seats are available in different participating colleges that give admission through JoSAA Counselling. Students who pass JEE Advanced get seats based on their nationality and category.
