The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has announced 'Maharastra Bandh' tomorrow due to the sexual assault of two 4-year-old girls by the school staff. The bandh is being held to demand justice for the victims and ensure the safety of children in schools. Due to this, many institutions and businesses will remain closed, and public transportation may be affected.
Know what's open and what's closed:

- Similarly, public transportation will be open but may experience delays or disruptions, so it is recommended to allow for extra travel time.
- Residents must stay informed through local news sources and official government channels for any updates on the situation.
- The banks will remain closed since it is the fourth Saturday of the month.
- RBI’s rules state that banks are to be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and regional holidays.
Why the Maharashtra Bandh on August 24?
A member of the school cleaning staff raped two young girls, both under the age of 4, last week in Badlapur, Thane district. The girls were taken to a hospital for treatment, and the accused was arrested.
This has caused outrage in the local community, with many demanding justice and stricter safety measures in schools to prevent such incidents from happening again.
A large protest was held at Badlapur Railway Station, where demonstrators pelted stones at the police. Therefore, many political parties have come forward to support this issue and take part in the Maharastra Bandh on August 24, 2024.
Maharashtra Bandh 2024: MVA Allies Call for Statewide Protest on August 24
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, comprising the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's NCP (SP), has called for a Maharashtra Bandh on August 24, 2024, in response to the Badlapur incident.
Key leaders from the alliance have expressed their concerns and reasons for participating in the bandh:
- Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena UBT): "People in Maharashtra are upset, and FIRs have been filed against the protesters. On August 24, the MVA will call for a Maharashtra Bandh in response to the Badlapur incident."
- Jitendra Awhad (NCP-SCP): "This government is unconstitutional. With the rise in criminal activities, a Maharashtra Bandh is necessary."
- Balasaheb Thorat (Congress): "We have called for a Bandh on August 24 due to the seriousness of the Badlapur incident."
The MVA aims to mobilise the people of Maharashtra to express their discontent with the current state of governance and the rise in criminal activities across the state.
